Ballards Gore is home to one of the most improved golf courses in South-East Essex.
The club takes its name from the triangular piece of land on which it is built, dating back to 1319 when the land was owned by the 'Ballard' family . The course, which opened in 1980 was designed by Arthur Elvin and built by former owners David and Jeff Caton. Their aim was to create a facility for golfers of all standards to enjoy, and to be welcoming to all golfers irrespective of age, golfing experience and ability. By making the most of the lands natural features, they created a course with very little rough and gently undulating greens, which over the past thirty years have matured into a real test of golfing ability. The friendly attitude of club staff and members guarantee's all visitors a warm welcome,
The sale of the club in 2006 saw the course improve further under the investment of its current owner, however, tragedy struck the club on 11th October 2008, when fire ripped through the heart of the clubhouse destroying much of the club's history.
The refurbished 'west section' of the clubhouse was successfully re-opened on 5th December 2009, celebrated by over 200 club members.
